It has been more than 2.500 years ago, that Mastic trees or Skinos, the highly emblematic trees are growing in the southern part of the island of Chios under the special microclimate of the area. There were the Romans, Byzantines, Genoese, and Ottomans who fought repeatedly for them and their precious value.
The invaluable aromatic sap is still harvested exclusively in the 24 Chios villages under the traditional method of bleeding the bark of the trees and collecting the resin that drops, recognized by UNESCO as a “living heritage for humanity”.
